shiraki mayuko

Mayuko Shiraki is the homeroom teacher for Tohru, Kyo, Yuki, Saki, and Arisa. The subject she teaches is never specified, but Natsuki Takaya, the author, mentioned that she imagines Shiraki as a literature teacher. Shiraki is generally good-natured but can be aggressive at times. For instance, when Kyo tries to leave class on Valentine's Day, she blocks him with a folder and jokingly threatens to dye his hair black. She once broke up a fight between Hatsuharu and Kyo by dousing them with a bucket of water. In another incident, after some students called her "Mayu-chan-sensei," she humorously demanded they address her as "Great Teacher Mayuko." Shiraki's parents, concerned about her being unmarried, run a bookstore where she occasionally helps out. According to Takaya, Shiraki may feel a sense of sadness due to her status as an unmarried woman and secretly feels insecure about her height. However, since Hatori Sohma is also tall, they might make a good-looking couple. Shiraki is best friends with Kana, who was once Hatori's fiancée. Through this friendship, she met Hatori, Shigure, and Ayame two years before the series began. Although Shiraki had feelings for Hatori, she was happy that he and Kana were together. She briefly dated Shigure for a month but broke it off because he was distant and she was only dating him to alleviate her loneliness. When Kana and Hatori broke up, Shiraki was devastated, especially since Hatori had erased Kana's memory of their engagement. Despite still having feelings for Hatori, she resents Shigure's interference in her life, even if it brings her closer to Hatori. In the final chapter, Shiraki and Hatori are shown as a couple, with Hatori inviting her on a vacation to Okinawa.
