Mariemaia Khushrenada is the daughter of Treize Khushrenada, the Duke of OZ, and Leia Barton, who is the daughter of Dekim Barton and sister to the real Trowa Barton. Mariemaia was conceived during a meeting between Treize and Leia on Colony X-18999, as detailed in the Episode Zero manga. Believed to have died at an early age, Mariemaia later reappeared as the figurehead of the Mariemaia Army, comprising soldiers loyal to her father, Treize. Through her grandfather Dekim's influence, Mariemaia was groomed to conquer Earth and assume the role of World Sovereign, believing this aligned with her father's wishes. Had Operation Meteor succeeded, she would have become Earth's ruler, albeit as a puppet under Dekim's control. To eliminate opposition to the Barton family's rule over Earth, Mariemaia kidnapped Vice-Foreign Minister Relena Darlian. The occupation of Earth proceeded swiftly without resistance, and victory seemed imminent until insurgents, including the Gundam pilots, began to fight back. Despite initial confidence that their efforts would be short-lived, Wing Zero's destruction of the shelter marked a turning point. Dekim urged Mariemaia to claim her place as Earth's ruler, but Relena slapped her into realizing the truth. Mariemaia then saved Relena's life when Dekim attempted to kill her.
