forbesii lycoris
Lycoris is a clone derived from Nerine's cells, marking her as the second artificial life form crafted by gods and devils. She was the girl who met Rin during their childhood years—not Nerine, as previously mentioned in the anime. Lycoris and Rin first encountered each other approximately 8 years before the main storyline begins, during which time Lycoris developed deep feelings for him.
Due to an incurable illness that befell Nerine, Lycoris chose to sacrifice her own life to save her. Before succumbing, Lycoris shared everything about Rin with Nerine and requested that she visit him once she recovered. After Lycoris' sacrifice, her soul merged with Nerine's, inadvertently transferring her thoughts, talents, wishes, and love for Rin to Nerine as well.
Physically, Lycoris differs from Nerine in terms of eye and hair color. Named after the Lycoris genus, which closely resembles the Nerine genus, Lycoris symbolizes "sorrowful memories" in hanakotoba, contrasting directly with the meaning behind Nerine's name.
