He is the rightful king of Tamir, who lost his kingdom to the Earl of Auye, casting his people into tyranny and poverty. At one point, he attempts to regain his throne through a marriage alliance with the powerful yet tyrannical Queen Elinor. In a dream, he meets Ley, declaring her his true love and sharing a kiss before a shadow, later revealed to be Queen Elinor, pulls him away. Upon waking, he resolves to disregard these dreams of love and proceed with his political ambitions through marriage.
Later, he encounters Ley in person and is bewildered to find Ley presenting as a "man," despite his undeniable feelings for her. His confusion deepens until the day before his wedding to Queen Elinor, when he discovers Ley's true gender during a gladiator battle.
