The Spirit of Lake Toya wields the sword that Gintoki carries. First appearing in Chapter 150, he tried to teach the Yorozuya an ultimate technique known as the "Jumbolic Magnum," which launches the target high into the sky with a single punch. A side effect of this attack causes the victim to expel bodily fluids. Unfortunately, none of the Yorozuya members ever manage to master this technique.
The spirit resides with his parents. His mother sports an afro hairstyle with a white beard, while his father is always on the lookout for employment. The father also possesses a finishing move called the "Jack Nicolle," where he fires a beam from his bald spot. Additionally, Toya has a pet that sheds copious amounts of curly hair.
It is rumored that he was a classmate of Taikobou, the protagonist of Hoshin Engi. Lake Toya has a fondness for fried cuttlefish, as evidenced by the contents of his wastebasket. He claims that the strange-smelling hardened tissue paper found in his trash is the leftover from his cuttlefish feasts, although Gintoki doubts this explanation. Under his bed, the spirit keeps a collection of books featuring female figurines.
This character is a parody of Zangetsu from the manga Bleach.
