Generally known as the "Dark Lord," he is a living repository of supernatural knowledge. Though he possesses a handsome appearance, his piercing eyes often intimidate others. As a child, he and his brother, Souji, were taken by a kamikakushi, an event that left Utsume with the ability to sense the otherworldly through smell. His brother never returned, so Utsume always dresses in black as a tribute. He has accumulated vast amounts of 'dark' knowledge over the years. Always emotionless and stoic, he expects nothing from anyone. Despite never voicing it, he secretly yearns for death. He fervently denies the existence of love, claiming that "Affection is merely an extension of possessive feelings." He is a member of the literature club.
