Later, it is revealed that she wasn't holding him but Tokage. She was a leannan-sidhe, also known as a "muse." These beings seduce human men and breathe in their "foison," inspiring the man's art in return. This explains why Kazumi became such a great novelist. However, this process would eventually have killed the man. Kureha genuinely fell in love with her husband and left before she could cause his death.
