hibiki kouyou

Kouyou Hibiki is an exclusive character to the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX manga. Kouyou was formerly a three-time Duel Monsters champion who encountered Jaden in a hospital. He imparted all his dueling knowledge to Jaden, emphasizing the importance of enjoying dueling regardless of the circumstances. Kouyou challenged Jaden to a duel and emerged victorious, after which he gifted Jaden his deck (which included Winged Kuriboh as part of an "Elemental Hero" theme) and his lucky red jacket. For more details on this, refer to the spoiler section. He is the younger brother of Midori Hibiki. The reason Kouyou was hospitalized was due to losing a Shadow Game against a mysterious duelist. This loss caused him to draw cards at his own life's expense; each serious draw depleted his heart's deck, ultimately leading to his demise. Deciding to retire from professional dueling, he chose Jaden as his final opponent. Upon defeating Jaden, Kouyou drew his last card and fell into a permanent coma.
