Keiko Yukimura, known as Kayko Yukimura in the English adaptations by FUNimation, video games, and trading card game, is a top student with a personality that contrasts sharply with Yusuke's. The name Yukimura translates to "snowy village," while Keiko can mean "firefly girl" or "respectful child." Her birthday is on January 31, her blood type is A, and she enjoys cooking and cleaning. Keiko's parents own a ramen restaurant named Yukimura Diner. At the start of the series, she is 14 years old and turns 18 by the end.
When Yusuke dies after being hit by a car, he is given a chance to return to life if someone kisses him, which ends up being Keiko. Despite Yusuke's efforts to keep her away from his spirit detective missions, interferences from Hiei and the Four Beasts make this impossible. After the ordeal, Keiko asks Botan to explain Yusuke’s situation but receives a vague lie for safety reasons, which she accepts. Keiko learns more during the Dark Tournament when she attends with Botan and Shizuru Kuwabara. From then on, she supports Yusuke through his adventures, including offering moral support during the Sensui arc alongside Shizuru.
Yusuke and Keiko, childhood friends, share a deep bond they are hesitant to admit. Near the end of the anime, Yusuke proposes to Keiko at her parents' ramen restaurant. It’s a touching moment until her father interrupts, jokingly reminding them of Yusuke's past antics. Though Keiko doesn’t verbally respond, her acceptance is clear to Yusuke. She spends the next three years studying at Dai-ichi School for Girls, an esteemed all-girls school. At the conclusion of the series, after meeting with friends, Keiko stands at the beach and yells, "I'm tired of waiting for you, Yusuke!" He suddenly appears beside her, saying, "I don't want you to wait either." Shocked yet overjoyed, she leaps into his arms, kissing him passionately, showing her enduring love despite the long wait.
