The male lead character, Kazuki, is a second-year student at the prestigious Aoi Academy, a magic school. He struggles with serious social issues and is often overlooked by his peers, especially the girls, due to his limited spell count of only eight spells. This changes when his magical heritage is revealed.
Despite his challenges, Kazuki is inherently good and uses his magic to help others, even if it puts him at risk of turning into ash. His selflessness and kindness eventually win over the hearts of Rin and Kuriko. While he can be indecisive and lacks courage at times, he consistently demonstrates an honest nature and a strong sense of justice.
It's worth noting that in the anime adaptation, Kazuki manages to maintain a harem of admirers. However, in the manga version, he ultimately chooses Yuna over Rin and Kuriko.
