Karin is the protagonist of the series. She is a unique vampire who produces excess blood instead of needing to consume it. Her condition worsens when she senses unhappiness or embarrassment, leading to frequent nosebleeds and subsequent anemia. Instead of sucking blood from others, she injects her surplus blood into them, making them feel more energetic and positive.
In the manga:
At one point, Karin faints after holding in her blood and suffering a severe nosebleed. Her mother searches for answers and discovers that Karin is a rare "Spring of Psyche" vampire whose blood can grant fertility to other vampires. Karin is later kidnapped by vampires who want to rejuvenate themselves by feeding on her, which would kill her. They also plan to impregnate her against her will. After being rescued by Kenta and the Marker family, her nosebleeds stop, leaving her as a normal human who will grow old and die. Her family erases her memories of vampires, including themselves, but promises Kenta they will watch over her happiness. At the end of the series, Karin and Kenta are married with a teenage daughter named Kanon.
In the anime adaptation:
The issue of Karin producing excess blood and her kidnapping are not addressed. Instead, she has the chance to become a full vampire, which she initially refuses but later pursues with encouragement from Kenta. The transformation process goes awry, causing her to go berserk. Kenta rescues her by volunteering to be bitten, ending her rage and confirming their romantic relationship. By the end of the anime, Karin remains an "un-vampire," continues to deal with her blood production issue, retains all her memories, and lives with her family while spending time with Kenta.
