A student at Hojo High School, Kai is Yuzuru's master and hails from the affluent Renge Family. Initially, he views Yuzuru merely as a "TOY" for his amusement, but soon finds himself falling deeply in love with her. Excelling in all sports, particularly tennis and basketball, Kai also boasts impressive academic achievements.

In the manga, his protectiveness over Yuzuru is evident, though it stems from a place of deep affection. In an unexpected proposal during a bath, Kai asks for Yuzuru's hand in marriage, which she accepts. Their story concludes with their marriage by the end of the manga.
