Jim is a seasoned geologist and archaeologist, known for his involvement in the excavation of a Tyrannosaurus. He owns a crocodile named Karen, whom he carries in a custom-made backpack, initially dismissed as fake by Vellian Crowler and Bonaparte. Jim considers Karen "family," not just a pet, and places immense trust in her, often relying on her to judge people's character. This led to his friendship with Judai Yuki. Jim uses a Duel Disk shaped like a boomerang.

After rescuing Karen from an animal trap, Jim sustained an injury to his right eye. Upon regaining consciousness, he was bestowed the Eye of Orichalcum by a man moved by Jim's dedication to Karen. This man informed him that the Eye possesses extraordinary powers when a specific comet appears. Following this event, Jim keeps his right eye bandaged.
