Izumi is a shinigami who appears later in the story. He is somewhat cold-hearted and distant, particularly in the anime. Among all the characters in the series, Izumi's personality and role differ significantly between the manga and its anime adaptation. In the anime, Izumi's background is not explored, and he is consistently portrayed as a cold-hearted character, often acting as the main antagonist. Throughout the series, he makes several attempts to steal Mitsuki's soul. Although he claims to love Meroko, his actions only seem to cause her pain, as Takuto points out. It is later revealed that he assigned Takuto and Meroko to Mitsuki to force Takuto to remember his past life by taking the soul of his former friend's daughter. In contrast, the manga presents Izumi in a different light. He is not depicted as the antagonist but rather as someone who has lost his way. Unlike in the anime, he does not perform most of the antagonistic acts. Arina Tanemura introduces him as a main character starting from chapter 5, where he eventually lives with Mitsuki and the other shinigami. His backstory is revealed in volume 5. At the age of six, Izumi was often abused by his grieving mother. To make her happy, he threw himself in front of a train, seeing her smile but never understanding its meaning. Later, he took his mother's soul but remained unsatisfied. As the story progresses, Izumi becomes an important figure to both Mitsuki and Meroko.
