Ichika is a 14-year-old Japanese middle school student residing in Kamakura. On the eve of the summer holiday, she discovers that a gift from her tutor is far more than just a good-luck charm.
She maintains honesty and politeness with everyone, including her parents, and always strives to do what she believes is right. Ichika has a strong aversion to lying, particularly when she finds herself doing it. Consequently, her friends often affectionately tease her for being so upright. She is easily frightened, and the idea of ghosts terrifies her, especially when she first encounters Manatsu's reflection in a mirror found in the school's oldest building.
