On the surface, Ian seems to be a relaxed and cheerful young man. Even when he was still a low-ranking Rook, he was one of the few Chess Pieces bold enough to be blunt and disrespectful towards his superiors. This ranged from calling the senior Loco "-chan" despite her emphasis on their age difference, to talking back to Halloween, one of the highest-ranked Knights. Later, in his quest for vengeance, he even dared to challenge the Knights.
Beneath his friendly demeanor lies a lethal, battle-thrilled fighter who is relentless once driven by determination. Whether it's simply getting into a fight he enjoys or pursuing the elimination of a sworn superior enemy, Ian does not stop until he achieves his goal. His tenacity often leads him to disobey orders, and he admits that because of this, he is always mentally prepared for the death penalty.
