Alibaba is a proud Rook who firmly believes that rank does not equate to strength, considering himself on par with the Knights. His character has a strong Arabian theme.

Alibaba makes his first appearance during the 3rd Round of the War Games. When Alan volunteers to go first, Alibaba steps up, claiming the other Chess Pieces present are too weak for him and that winning would earn him a Knight rank.

The battle begins with Alibaba summoning his Guardian. However, he is no match for Alan, and his Guardian is swiftly defeated. Alan then carries Alibaba to a volcano and throws him in. In the manga, this results in Alibaba's death.

In the anime, however, Alibaba survives as Phantom uses one of his Dimension ÄRM to rescue him. Later, Alibaba captures the Princess of Reginlief but is defeated again by the combined efforts of Ginta Toramizu, Jack, and Loco, seemingly meeting his end once more.

Yet, Alibaba survives again and reappears during the end credits of the final episodes, cheering up Fuugi who is crying over the Princess of Reginlief's marriage to Carl.
