Hyunckel's parents were killed during a monster attack, but one of the monsters took him in and raised him as if he were their own child. When Avan defeated Hadlar and Hyunckel discovered his adoptive father dead, he secretly harbored resentment towards Avan, believing him to be responsible for his father's death. Hyunckel became Avan's first student, but after graduating, he attempted to kill his teacher with a technique he invented called Bloody Scraid. The attempt failed, and Myst-Vearn then took him under his wing, grooming him to become the General of the Immortal Army, one of the six main armies controlled by Hadlar and Vearn. Upon learning that it was actually Hadlar who had murdered his adoptive father, not Avan, Hyunckel joined Dai's group.
Initially, Hyunckel wielded a demon magic sword that could transform into armor known as Amudo, but Dai broke it during a fight with Baran. Since then, Hyunckel has used a spear with similar properties, crafted by the same creator. He is proficient in all basic Avan techniques and also wields Demon Puppet Grab, a skill he learned from Myst-Vearn. As he switched from a sword to a spear, Hyunckel had to master Avan's elemental spear techniques, which include Thundering Ground Flash (comparable to Earth Slash), Echoing Sea Flash (similar to Sea Slash), and Sky Flash (akin to Sky Slash). His ultimate attack, Grand Cross, channels the user's entire life energy into one colossal strike shaped like a giant cross.
