Hiromi is, officially, Makoto's cousin. After her father's passing, she was adopted by her mother, who is the daughter of Makoto's grandfather. This means that Hiromi and Makoto are not actually related by blood. Hiromi and Makoto knew each other as young children, during a time when Makoto was believed to be a boy. This led to Hiromi's surprise when she met Makoto again as a teenager. Once Makoto reveals her secret, Hiromi takes on the role of Makoto's protector and tutor. She strives to safeguard Makoto's secret and guide her away from danger, yet she inevitably becomes involved in Makoto's complications.
