The Solar Priestess, Himeko, is a shy and innocent 16-year-old girl who garners the most attention in the anime. Initially, Himeko has feelings for her childhood friend, Sōma Ōgami. She regards Chikane as a close friend, though their meetings are infrequent and secretive. Himeko is an amateur photographer with considerable skill, a hobby she developed thanks to encouragement from Chikane Himemiya. Himeko starts off as a timid girl, unsure of her own value and capabilities. This insecurity stems from her tumultuous past; after her birth parents died, she was adopted by abusive relatives before being moved to other families. At school, Himeko appears to have only one friend besides Souma and Chikane—her dorm roommate, Makoto. Following the destruction of the dorms, when Himeko begins living with Chikane, she faces hostility from Chikane's female admirers at school, which she struggles to handle. Despite her timidity, Himeko gradually exhibits remarkable determination and courage. Himeko bears the solar symbol on her chest.
