Usada, also known as Rabi~en~Rose, is introduced to the audience as Dejiko's rival. Her nickname might be a play on several things. "Rabi~en~Rose" could be a twist on the French phrase "La Vie en Rose," meaning "life in rose-pink." In Japanese, "spending a life in rose-pink" means living without any worries. "Rabi," which sounds like the English word "rabbit," replaces "La vie" to form a pun meaning "Rabbit in life without worries," reflecting her personality. Her real name is Hikaru Usada, which bears a resemblance to Hikaru Utada (famous for her Kingdom Hearts theme songs), but this was officially stated as a coincidence since the story and names were decided before Hikaru Utada's debut in Japan. Her surname "Usada" is also a pun; "Usa" is short for "usagi," meaning "rabbit" in Japanese. In the original anime, she appears as a regular girl who uses dice to transform into her bunnygirl outfit: a pink, white, and red dress with large white rabbit ears and a big round cotton tail. Her parents left her to live independently to help her become an idol. Unlike other characters with kemonomimi traits in the Di Gi Charat franchise, Rabi~en~Rose does not end her sentences with a rabbit sound (typically pyo in anime). She is highly competitive and often tries to provoke Dejiko. However, some manga stories reveal that she genuinely wants to be friends with Dejiko, hinted at through various comedic gestures.
