Sumino is a girl who has always blended into the background, her plain appearance and shy demeanor making her nearly invisible. Determined to change this and make at least three friends in high school, she sets out with new resolve. On her way to school, she witnesses a cat about to be hit by a car. Without hesitation, Sumino steps in front of the cat, trying to draw attention to it. Despite her efforts, she still gets hit as the driver only noticed the cat. Sumino ends up in the hospital for an extended period, missing the first days of high school. Upon her return, she finds that social groups have already solidified, leaving her in the same isolated position she was in during middle school. She remains unnoticed, even by the teacher. However, she meets Hinata, a popular boy described as 'like the sun,' who genuinely likes her and has always acknowledged her presence. Inspired by him, she decides to transform into someone who can stand by his side. Throughout the book, Sumino shares her thoughts on a sunflower-decorated blog, where she goes by the name Himawari. Her blog has two followers, Black Rabbit and MegaPIG, who send supportive messages.
