Hermes is a Brough Superior motorcycle, a two-wheeled vehicle that moves in the direction it's pointed but cannot fly—in other words, a motorcycle—that travels with Kino. Hermes provides the speed needed to go anywhere they desire. Besides his impressive speed and ability to carry large amounts of luggage (Kino never seems to travel light), Hermes doesn't have many other notable qualities except for frequently mixing up quotes and complaining. He is also quite gullible, trusting Kino completely even when she teases him, which often results in more grumbling and complaints. One of his most famous lines is "I'm bored." The motorcycle is naive and innocent in many ways, behaving very childlike, which contrasts sharply with Kino's more mature and worldly demeanor. Nevertheless, Hermes is reliable and makes a good companion for long journeys.
In the Gakuen Kino spin-off series, he appears as a cell phone strap instead.
