Daughter of a well-connected Bakufu official's family, Hasegawa Taizou married into her family from a poorer samurai background. Willing to humble herself for her husband's sake, she knelt to beg for forgiveness on his behalf at his superior's house, even though the superior was of a lower social rank than her own family. She did this because her husband had dressed inappropriately for work, and she felt it was important to maintain his dignity and standing despite their different social statuses. Her actions reflected both her commitment to her husband and her understanding of the importance of social harmony.
