Hatori is the Zodiac Dragon and the personal physician for the Souma family. He is serious and often lacks a sense of humor. His responsibility involves erasing the memories of anyone who discovers the Souma family secret, though it's unclear if this is achieved through hypnosis or a supernatural ability. When his curse triggers, he transforms into a seahorse rather than a dragon, as seahorses are considered baby dragons in Chinese culture, and the Japanese term reflects this. This transformation embarrasses him because, despite being the "great and powerful dragon," he turns into a "seahorse."
Hatori experienced heartbreak with his "Spring," a woman named Kana who worked as his assistant. Their relationship ended tragically when Hatori asked Akito for permission to marry Kana. In response, Akito threw a pot at Hatori, leaving him nearly blind in his left eye. Overwhelmed with guilt, Kana descended into depression and madness, ultimately forcing Hatori to erase her memories to alleviate her suffering. Like Shigure and Ayame, Hatori is tall and, upon closer inspection, is genuinely kind-hearted.
