oono haruka

Oono is a first-year student at Fujigaya, introduced at the start of Akira and Fumi's second year of high school. She is an energetic and straightforward girl who considers her bluntness a personality flaw, often unintentionally hurting others' feelings by speaking her mind too clearly. Despite this, she is extremely brave and self-confident, quickly forming friendships with older students from both Fujigaya and Matsuoka. In school, she even calls Yamashina-sensei by her nickname "Hina-chan," though she is corrected to address her teachers appropriately. Haruka initially joins Fujigaya outside of the usual admission system, similar to Akira, having not attended the associated elementary or middle schools and instead passing an entrance exam. This shared experience as "outsiders" leads them to become fast friends. Her initial reason for attending Fujigaya was to meet Sugimoto Yasuko. A year earlier, she and her older sister Orie attended the Fujigaya drama festival where Yasuko's performance as Heathcliff deeply moved Haruka, inspiring her to attend the academy. She was disheartened to learn that Yasuko had already graduated and left the country. Even more disappointing, Yasuko was a student at Matsuoka, not Fujigaya, suggesting Haruka might have chosen differently had she known. She joins the Drama Club and successfully recruits Ueda Ryouko for the school's new play. Through Akira, she becomes much closer with Fumi. Despite a rocky start, Haruka and Fumi eventually become good friends. Haruka invites Fumi to her house, where she confides a troubling secret: she found a love letter from Hinako to her sister Orie. Struggling to accept her sister's potential lesbianism, she seeks Fumi's advice, unaware that Fumi is also gay. Realizing she may have put Fumi in an awkward position, Haruka feels she has overstepped their bond. Determined to make amends, Haruka confronts Fumi, showing more courage than Akira, who avoided Fumi due to a recent rift between them. Through this conversation, Haruka realizes she must face and accept her sister's sexuality.
