Born Haruno Shiobana, Giorno is the son of Dio, who used Jonathan Joestar's body to father him, making him part of the Joestar family, and a Japanese woman. As a young child, his mother remarried an Italian man, and they relocated to Italy; thus, Haruno Shiobana became Giorno Giovanna. Giorno's greatest ambition in life is to become a mafia boss, or a "Gang Star." Consequently, he joins the mob organization Passione. Despite being its youngest and newest member, he quickly demonstrates his capabilities and eventually becomes the de facto leader of the group. Unlike traditional mafia bosses, Giorno aimed to redistribute wealth to the poor, aligning his agenda with that of Robin Hood. He eventually influences all of Passione—except their original boss, who later becomes their most formidable enemy.
