Genzo Wakabayashi is an extraordinary goalkeeper who can catch almost anything thrown at him. Not many shots can come past Genzo. A charismatic individual, Genzo is also loyal to his friends and resolute in his decisions. Despite his strong exterior, Genzo keeps his feelings to himself, as seen in Shin Captain Tsubasa, where he openly critiques his teammates' performance to help them understand that European football is different from what they play in Japan. His actions led to resentment from many Japanese players, but Genzo only confided his true intentions to Tsubasa. From early childhood, he has aimed to be the best goalkeeper in the world. Initially, he tended to be selfish and boast about his skills before meeting and playing a few games against Tsubasa.
