Gauche, Lag's rescuer, first appears in chapter 1. He is the Letter Bee who finds young Lag Seeing marked as a letter in "Coza Bel," a small town in the "Yodaka District" (the lower-class district in Amberground). Gauche has to deliver Lag to "Cambel Litus," another town in the "Yodaka District," so Lag can join his aunt, who was entrusted with his care by the person who wrote Lag's letter data. Gauche is a caring and enthusiastic Letter Bee, striving to become the "Head Bee" (Captain of the Letter Bees) to earn enough money to support his sister and live peacefully.
Five years after their meeting, when Lag inquires about him, Gauche is reported as "missing." Later, he reappears before Lag as a marauder, someone who steals letters from Letter Bees. After crossing from Yuusari to Akatsuki, Gauche lost his memories upon returning from "the light" alive and is renamed Noir. Noir is always accompanied by his dingo, Roda, a human child fused with his previous dingo, a dog with the same name.
Despite several failed attempts by Lag to restore Gauche's heart, in chapter 28, Lag shoots him through the heart with a heart bullet, leaving him in a coma.
By the end of chapter 37, Gauche awakens but remains Noir, although a part of him still harbors feelings for Lag and Sylvette. Regarding Aria, his childhood friend who always loved him, Noir seems to have forgotten her too.
