Forty is Hitoshi's A.I. Program No. 40, also known as "Number Forty." It is the first A.I. that Hitoshi intentionally brought to life, albeit somewhat unintentionally. Developed using both C and Assembly Language, Forty is more powerful than Saati and Toeni combined. Before it was fully ready, Saati and Toeni sneaked a peek at this new A.I., agreed on an age of twelve, and then debated its gender and personality. In their eagerness, they pressed too many buttons simultaneously, resulting in an A.I. with two distinct modes: a male personality and a female personality within a single female body. When Forty-kun, the male persona, says "girl," he transforms into Forty-chan, the female persona; conversely, when Forty-chan says "boy," she becomes Forty-kun. While each persona seems aware of the other's existence, there are only two instances where Forty-chan shows some awareness of Forty-kun. For the most part, each persona remains blissfully unaware of the other. Forty-kun describes himself as a hard-line conservative uninterested in Hitoshi's porn-based hobbies. He is a neat-freak who prides himself on being a good boy and enjoys finer things in life—traits chosen by Saati. On the other hand, Forty-chan describes herself as a sensual party girl who loves adventure and even attempts to seduce Hitoshi by using a Hyper Program Option to give herself a more mature appearance—traits reflecting Toeni's preferences. Saati wanted a nice little sister, while Toeni desired a naughty little brother, and they both got what they wished for in one form. Forty-kun decided he wanted to attend school, so he was enrolled in class 1-C, which appears to be a junior high school conveniently located in the same building as Hitoshi and Saati's high school.
