His true name remains a mystery, but the Flame Champion is celebrated as the hero who freed the Grasslands from Harmonian oppression with the aid of the True Fire Rune and his group, the Fire Bringer. He began by raiding Harmonian convoys with a small band and his powerful rune. As his organization grew, so did his ranks. However, to rescue a large number of Grassland prisoners held by Harmonia, he sacrificed his freedom and was imprisoned. Four years later, his followers freed him, and he resumed his fight for the Grasslands' liberation. Another four years passed before Harmonia launched a massive invasion into the Grasslands, igniting the full-scale Fire Bringer War. As the final battle commenced, the Flame Champion lost control of his True Fire Rune, causing a devastating explosion that claimed countless lives on both sides. The immense destruction led Harmonia to propose a 50-year truce, but it also drained the Flame Champion's vitality. Desiring nothing more than to live out his days with his mortal love, Sana, he relinquished his True Fire Rune, sealing it away to avoid an ageless existence. He spent his remaining years with Sana until his death. His legend endured in the Grasslands long after his passing, and his spirit aided his successor 50 years later when they unsealed the True Fire Rune. During the Second Fire Bringer War, the title of Flame Champion is adopted by either Hugo, Geddoe, or Chris, depending on the player's choice. Canonically, Hugo is considered the "correct" successor.
