Erina Pendleton first appears as a young girl, with Jonathan rescuing her from bullies. When she reappeared, she and Jonathan were already in a relationship, and over time they fell deeply in love. However, after Dio abducted her, kissed her, and then brutally assaulted her, she felt deep humiliation and distanced herself from Jonathan for an extended period. She did not reappear until after Dio's first near-defeat, when she took care of Jonathan and nursed him back to health. Following this, Jonathan finally defeated Dio using the Ripple. They then rekindled their relationship and got married. They boarded a ship to embark on their honeymoon to America, but the voyage was interrupted by Dio's reappearance. The ship sank, and Jonathan stayed behind to confront Dio. Erina escaped with an orphaned infant. Years later, Erina and her grandson Joseph Joestar were the last surviving members of the Joestar family.
