Unbeknownst to her, this action set off a series of events that would lead to significant changes in her life. Another student, Kazuki Aihara, found the paper airplane and returned it to Futami. In response, she initiated an experiment to understand how and why people fall in love, leading her to kiss him under the guise of experimentation. Her experiments included holding hands, kissing, staring into each other's eyes, and testing whether she truly lacks a sense of taste. After Asuka Sakino discovered these experiments, she confronted Futami about manipulating people's feelings. Realizing her mistake, Futami decided to end the experiments. However, when Kazuki began losing interest in soccer, Sakino attempted to bring Futami and Kazuki together again, only to realize later that it was a mistake. A week or so later, Kazuki visited Futami's apartment with flowers and romantic lines from a movie he was working on. He practiced his lines outside Futami's door, unaware that she was watching and listening through the video receiver. Before he could ring the doorbell, Futami came outside and tried to make him leave by saying mean things. However, his words stunned her and made her cry. Only then did Futami realize that she was actually in love. Following this realization, she became more open with others, started talking more, and even helped some underclassmen with their food experiments, despite knowing that Futami has no sense of taste.
