Elizabeth, who insists on being called the more affectionate "Lizzie," is Ciel's cousin. She is the daughter of Ciel's father's sister, Frances, and her husband, Marquis Midford. Additionally, she is Ciel's fiancée. Lizzie has known Ciel since they were children, and their relationship was notably close. Despite this long-standing bond, Ciel has not shared with her the details of his parents' deaths or his subsequent disappearance. Lizzie accepts this reticence without pressing for answers and strives to rekindle their close friendship. She once ran away from home to visit Ciel, undeterred by her mother's intimidating demeanor—she might be the only character in the series unafraid of the Marchioness. Although engaged to Ciel, this fact remains relatively unknown; none of Ciel's adversaries have attempted to use her against him, despite his deep care for her, as shown when he shields her from an attacking bear.
Lizzie is characterized by her strong will and cheerful disposition. She has a fondness for cute things, which extends to her hobby of making everything around her "cute." This includes decorating the mansion with hearts and sparkly bunnies or dressing up old men in dresses ("just like Marie Antoinette!"). While she can be forceful and unwilling to accept no for an answer, she feels deeply remorseful if she goes too far and upsets someone, even to the point of tears. Most importantly, despite her romanticized view of their relationship, she genuinely cares for Ciel but is still learning how best to express her affection.
In the manga and Book of the Atlantic, it is revealed that Lizzie is an excellent swordswoman. Ciel was unaware of this skill because Lizzie wanted to maintain her image of being "cute," and fighting contradicted that image. Her talent stems from her family tradition; her father, Marquis Alexis Midford, heads the British knights, and both her parents and brother are skilled swordsmen. Lizzie's prowess was crucial in protecting Ciel during an attack on the ship Campania by Bizarre dolls, where she single-handedly defeated numerous foes before a stunned Ciel and Sebastian. She even confronts Grell with her sword, though Sebastian stops her, apologizing for forcing her into combat. It is also noted that she avoids wearing high heels so as not to tower over Ciel, and she is willing to make any sacrifice for him.
