A member of the Fourteen Lances who betrayed Ascheriit, Barestar was originally the youngest son of a powerful merchant, one of three brothers. Insecure and inept in business dealings, he was chosen as an envoy to the Emperor due to his impressive physical abilities. He was close friends with Ascheriit and one of the few among the Seven Heroes who understood the consequences of their brutal actions.
After becoming a hero, Barestar seemed to be corrupted, possibly by guilt. He began living extravagantly, consumed by anger and envy towards Glenn for not granting him war airships. Secretly, he turned his fortress into a flying castle equipped with destructive Wischtech engines. Following Schtemwolech's death, Barestar became increasingly paranoid, fearing that even the smallest things could be attempts on his life.
His paranoia led him to send his army to attack the city of Jullas-Abllas, accusing its citizens of supporting Koinzell. Ironically, his actions only caused the citizens to rally behind Koinzell and fight against his forces. Eventually, his own men abandoned him, driving him to complete madness. When Koinzell finally caught up with him, Barestar believed they were back in the war, at a moment when Koinzell had saved him. Sadly, he asked Koinzell to help him return home to his family. Seeing this, Koinzell, out of pity, ended Barestar's life while he was in this confused state.
Barestar is the only one of the Seven Heroes whom Ascheriit shows any remorse for killing. Among the Seven Deadly Sins, he represents Greed, exemplified by his jealousy of Glenn's weapons and army, and his desire to possess them all for himself.
