He was ranked first nationally in the 100-meter sprint and attended Toudo University High School. In middle school, he was consistently outperformed by Kazuki, a topic that remains sensitive for him. He has a dedicated fan base that follows him to competitions. Like Suzuka, he accepted an opportunity to study abroad in the United States, where he kept track of Yamato's running times back in Japan. After returning, he chose to attend Toudo University and joined their track team. He was used by Tetsuhiko and Souichi in an attempt to reignite Yamato's competitive spirit. When this plan failed, he asked Yamato what was wrong during their walk home. Upon hearing Yamato's explanation, he remarked that if it were him, he would have the girl get an abortion since track was his top priority. This statement led to a fight as Suzuka was the most important to Yamato. Near the end of the series, he tells Yamato through Kenji that he expects to see him at the Olympics. Arima and Kenji represent Japan in the 100m and 200m events.
