Akira is Hikaru's biggest rival and a student at Kaio Middle School. Being the son of Koyo Touya, Akira is already an exceptionally strong Go player when Hikaru starts playing. He is astonished by Hikaru's seemingly impossible strength. Ever since their first game, Akira has been determined to uncover the secret behind Hikaru's abilities. Although Akira has won against Hikaru in subsequent matches, he still recognizes significant potential in him. As the series progresses, they continue to challenge each other in Go, but their matches often end in arguments. Additionally, Akira grows taller throughout the series.
