Akaha's father was a member of a criminal organization named Ryuugen, who failed to report the true extent of drug sales. From childhood, Akaha was on the run with his parents. However, one day they were caught by a higher-up in Ryuugen named Sawaki. Sawaki killed Akaha's parents but spared Akaha because he did not cry or beg. From that day forward, Akaha lost his real name (Akaha being an alias given by Sawaki) and became Sawaki's personal subordinate, also known as Sawaki's right hand. According to police information, "the right hand of Ryuugen" is the number two leader in Ryuugen. Akaha indeed held this position. In the first OVA, Akaha disguised himself as Kagura Akito and met Kai Etou, one of the main characters, at a botanical garden where Kai was conducting an investigation. Kai seemed to like Akito without realizing he was actually Akaha. In the manga, Kai once took care of Akaha when he was injured in an accident and temporarily lost his memory. During this time, Akaha told Kai that he didn't want to return to Ryuugen, leaving it uncertain whether this statement was truthful or deceptive.
