I really hate how this was handled.



The initial crime Takezou committed was killing 2 guards at the border of this province. And this was never shown, but only told to us in a small fucking ass little panel in chapter 8. The samurai he killed later was in self defense because they wanted to kill him for that crime. Everyone he killed before were just a gang of bandits who would have raped Akemi. If the author wanted to portray Takezou's anti-social and mistrustful personality then i'd say that particular crime would be an important scene to draw, in order to show us how exactly it happened, especially since Takezou hasn't been shown to be particularly violent and aggressive toward people who meant him no harm.



I also hate how that monk tried to change Takezou. You don't write a character development by making him reach a certain conclusion after starvation and dehydration. Takezou asked for death but that monk denied it and let him starve. Of course there's a high chance someone would change to the torturer's point of view in that moment of weakness, even if they don't believe in it.
