It really wouldn't make sense to say that he was waiting for Hagiwara or w/e to turn traitor and that is why he joined the empire since if he stayed with the Black King's forces they would have destroyed the empire anyways ... And doubt he could have known about the plans to burn Kyoto so the logic "I didn't want Kyoto to burn" wouldn't really work either.
Anyways figured atleast one person w/ a name would have died in that explosion ... guess not.
