                        I was surprised with Asuka in that chapter. The manga chooses not follow the movie by imitating one of the most infamous scenes in anime, but I'm much more fascinated with Asuka in the manga and the fact she is only left with rage.

Wow, they didn't have that sense in the manga. Which i'm happy about. I feel like this serves the purpose of showing that everything Shinji wanted to protect is completely gone now. He had hopes that Asuka would wake up, but this shows that isn't going to happen. That was his last hope, and now it's gone. It breaks Shinji even further now.

This is a nihilistic Shinji who might very go along with SEELE's plan.

So Asuka wakes up and attacks Shinji... quite a departure from THAT scene in the End of Evangelion movie.

This might just push Shinji over the edge of no return. For once, Asuka did respond to his pleadings. But not the way he had hoped for. To make matters worse, that penultimate panel, where Rei looks towards him (while following Gendo) and then turns the face away, is what truly gravitates the situation Shinji finds himself in. He's all alone, in this crazy world. Everyone he was attached to has changed in one way or another. The Shinji now is very much the Shinji at the start of the manga, timid, empty and sceptic of his surroundings.



Pleasantly surprised to see the infamous scene not being translated in the manga. This one was more powerful imho. Asuka's screaming, almost animalistic rage really shook Shinji to the core. Gendo's actions aside, really interested to see if Sadamoto manages to handle Asuka's character in a different vein from this point.

Yeah what happened to the jack off scene? Anyway Shinji has no faith in humanity

Shinji just sort of explodes on Misato, about how he has to suffer while she sits behind a monitor, in his mind, "safe". She says to herself that she knows this, which is why it's tough to give those orders.



He goes to see Asuka who, after hearing him refer to her as an "empty shell" snaps out of her catatonic state in a rage and proceed to choke him not unlike those rather iconic moments from EoE (that the manga is adapting as of this chapter). After the nurses and doctors stop her, Asuka speaks her first words in a long long time "Hate, Hate. I hate everybody!" When Shinji sees Gendo and Rei, the latter of which notices him but turns away seemingly indifferently.....he breaks down crying.



This was, seemingly, the last straw, Shinji Ikari may well and truly be broken.

A surprising moment, to be sure. Interesting parallel with a similar scene in the movie as well. Wonder if Sadamoto will continue to take Asuka in a different direction.

Well, that scene in EoE is one of my favorite moments because it defines Shinji at the start of the film so damn well. For this version of the character, though, it just wouldn't make sense. Actually sexuality isn't a big a part of the manga version of the story in general, so yeah.

This should be the chapter where Shinji faps on Asuka.  Well,  this is better than the movie.
