                        It was a nice touch to have Yui actually communicate to Gendo.  As I read each chapter, I am struck by how the manga tells the story of Neon Genesis Evangelion so much better than the anime, though the manga did take 19 years to tell it all.

Well I mean what else could he do they were pretty much fucked

And now it's Rei's turn to get owned by that angel. Even a N2 bomb can't touch this angel. This whole sequence is still my favorite battle of the series. And now Unit-01 has shown up. Can't wait to see how this plays out, and how the manga might differ from the anime.

I really liked the part where Gendo was freaking out wondering what was wrong with "Yui" and then she shows him Shinji on the monitors as if she is telling him "this is what I want".

Some massive amounts of foreshadowing in this chapter, with a flabbergasted Gendo thinking of 'Yui' and all the screens showing Shinji. Also really liked how the characters have changed so far. The scene between Shinji and Gendo was pretty similar to that of the very first time when Gendo ordered Shinji to pilot Unit 01.

Instead, it's Shinji now who wants to pilot the Eva.

Great stuff.

Gendo allowed him to just get in the robot? Well, I guess their lives were depending on it. Also, this particular scene undermines every "Shinji is a coward" argument, he came back when they needed him the most and he risked his life countless times for the organization.
