This chapter dealt with the immediate fallout over Toji's death, especially concerning Shinji. Asuka was right, he was dreaming but it was more like a nightmare. A vision of the all too scary situation of being confronted by Hikari and being forced to tell her of Toji's death. That he was there and could do nothing to stop it. He blames his father so much he screams it out as he wakes up and even attempts to punch Gendo as he seemingly feels no guilt at all. Oh man, how cathartic would that have been?
If Shinji was ever not sure if he hated his father or not, I think he's found the answer. He can't even stand to be around him anymore. So, again, he wishes to leave and Misator cannot talk him out of it this time. That moment when she talks about all the people, the adults hopes being on the shoulder of the children......weak and frustrated must that make them feel?
As Shinji says, he has no intention of returning....it will probably take something pretty drastic for him to come back at this point.

I never understood how the control room was able to increase the LCL pressure when Shinji was able to override the forced shutdown and ejection. This is a defining moment for Shinji.
Come on man, obviously they would have some sort of fail safe just in case a pilot tries to go renegade.
