Well, it was shown that Elijah could shoot earlier when he was hunting. Of course this was at a much longer distance, so clearly luck played a role in things. Great sequence, such tension.
No, It was shown earlier that Elijah COULDN'T shoot while hunting earlier when he failed to shoot the birds ... And then did finally shoot a bird that was acting injured as too distract the hunter from its' nest. Though again, sudden change in attitude towards killing ... but w/e being way too picky here.
