Laws of the Other World Chapter 33 Discussion

Really recomended!

Someone in the comments before me said this there are elements of avatar (the blue aliens) in this. I'd say it's a mix of sliders (tv show), avatar and alien. And it's great! The plot, the characters you never get a feeling of a 'filler' everthing is there for a reason, it is believable in the setting of the world and the characters feels beliveable and complex. I often got the feeling of mystery, not only from the obvious exploration of a new world, but the way certain characters seems to offescate information. And they do so for their own reasons and motivations, which I can understand. The effect is that you as a reader is constantly revealing little bits of truths to add together, wether it is by following the MC as he goes out on missions or by adding up what a character said just now, and what it said before.

Spoiler

I'm mainly talking about Song Zhi, the mc's superior in charge of the research project in that other dimension world. We learn pretty early on that S class organisms (the native creatures of this other world) are highly intelligent insanly powerful beings capable of leveling an entire human base on their own. Also capable to miMC the human form and seduce humans into becoming their offsprings' incubators, alien style. We also learn that the neurotoxin that the humans are shooting at lesser dangerous creatures is only effective because it was taken/developed from the spine marrow of such s organism. So, how did the humans manage to get a hold on that material from such a dangerous creature they couldn't possibly subdue? Later we learn that Song Zhi almost killed an s organism, so we probably know where the spine marrow came from, but again how? Then, Song Zhi reveals his deceased fiance developed the neurotoxin they weaponized and she along with his former research colleagues were all cruelly killed as a revenge by an s organism he angered. He frames it like that: the s organisms are very proud and so powerful, they consider humans as ants and at some point he came across one, but angers it which led to the brutal death of his loved ones. Which is why he wants to kill said s organism. Pretty straight forward, untill you think about it and realize that if his fiance died, then the extraction of a bone marrow happened before that which means he possibly tried to kill it first. Song zhi laments in his thoughts that he won't be able to kill the s organism the same way he almost did before because it would never trust him again- this implies Song zhi was the aggressor, because why would an intlligent creature would trust another intelligent creature after he killed their loved ones?

Besides the great plot, pacing, characters and world building, another point I loved is that the shou MC is a total badass. And so far as I got in the story he consistantly remained a tough manly badass. Spoiler

It just so happens that the gong ML have hacks being an otherworldly powerful alien.
