Wow.Just wow.I can't believe I didn't discover this Fanfiction sooner. I literally have an FFnet archive where I collected every YGO Isekai I could find across DM and its spinoffs. I've found many gems, but this story blows them all out of the water. "I Play Yugioh" is easily my favorite YGO Isekai Fanfiction, possibly my favorite Yugioh Fanfiction overall. It combines all the different source materials (whacky anime hijinks, irl play strategies, manga characters, etc.) so naturally and well.A major part of my favorable impression comes from The Legendary Mechanic being my #1 webnovel, which this Fanfiction heavily reminds me of. It has levels, players, player forums, time travel, power progression, a crafty MC who uses the aforementioned players as a piggy bank, etc.The other part is the fact thatSpoiler
Dark Magician Girl, the #1 Waifu of my Heart since childhood, is given so much spotlight as Su Yu's spirit partner. All her scenes are adorable.
[collapse]Of course, this story isn't perfect. I believe there are too many back-to-back Duels, often with unimportant characters that no one cares about. Additionally, the Players often overstay their welcome or have too much focus dedicated to them. In many cases, I believe the story would be better without the Players. Further, although I am very fond of the Decks that Author chose for the main character, they, too, overstay their welcome. Especially since the MC is using cards from a future Era, which makes his wins feel a little cheaper than if he struggled with an existing cardpool. Like, don't get me wrong, basically every Yugioh fanfiction writer (myself included) adds future archetypes, future forms, support, etc. But it's just a little unfortunate when the cards are just clearly above the canon cast's options.I actually really want to write Recursive Fanfiction of this, replacing Su Yu with a different transmigrated Player. Perhaps even starting the story in time for the MC to participate in Duelist Kingdom. I know it won't hold a candle to this stunning piece of art, but even so, I may give it a try.Thank you so much to Foxaholic for translating this Fanfiction and sharing it!
