This chapter made me feel like I'm reading an entirely different manga now, but nonetheless, it was a good read.
Alita has to settle a dispute with the #99 from second league if she wants to continue to have that number since each player must have a different number. She's too stubborn to accept an available number, so instead she'd rather have a match against the owner of #99 to settle the score. They play a best of 3 practice match and in the first round Alita is a bit overconfident which contributes to her losing that round. She loses a leg in the process and her tech, Umba, attaches a spare leg and preps her for round 2. In the second round after making corrections, especially to her attitude, she's able to overcome #99's surprises and best him to win round 2. Seeing how Alita overcame his abilities, he forfeits the number over to her since he knows his technique won't work on her again. In the end, he says he's never seen an earthian technique such as her and she states that it's the battle style of Mars, Marskreige. I wonder if that means she's from Mars then? It's make me think of Yugo's brother's theory of Zalem's shaft having two sides and it being connected to something else on the other side. Is it possible that it's connected to Mars? But that would seem outlandish due to how incredibly far those two planets are from each other. It's an interesting thought though. Can't wait to find out more, but it certainly shows that Alita is remembering aspects of her former self each time she uses her abilities and relearns more of her former skills.
