The story starts off great. The author sprinkles in bits of mystery here and there while building the plot. Even though the story is set in a prison, the world building are still explained well in my opinion.

Spoiler

The MC is weak (not really, but compared to many OP characters in the story, the MC is just a speck of dust), but he has a special ability that allows him to read/hear other people's thoughts. In order to survive in the prison, he conned his fellow inmate with his mind reading ability. While doing so, he discovers many important secrets and dangerous element that may influence the fate of the world, some of them is hidden in the exact prison where MC locked up.

The narrative conveyed through the regressor's inner monologue (one of MC's inmate) shows that the world that seemed peaceful turned out to be unstable and would soon meet its end. Like there is exist hidden conspiracy brewing behind the scene and a terrifying being will appear not far from future, destroying the whole world.

The first arc is basically about how the MC builds rapport with (or deceives) three powerful prisoners, while unintentionally preventing several global catastrophic event from happening to the world.

But...

As the story progresses, entering the second arc, the novel somewhat loses its steam. Some of the interesting points that made the first arc great, sadly are missing afterward.

Spoiler

To my surprise, after The Prison Arc, the story turn into a lukewarm sol with a bit of action?? Honestly, it was total snoozefest for me.

I don't know how to put it, but all the mystery and suspense that make me invested to this story was gone. It's like the novel trying to shift to a new different story, forgetting the majority plot happened in the prison arc. Especially information regarding the world's imminent doom from the regressor's previous timeline.

Imagine you tell someone that the government issued a warning about incoming nuclear strike or meteor falling toward their neighbourhood, but they simply respond with "Oh no, anyway...". That's the feeling I get from reading the second arc forward.
