The main characters of this series are over powered, but not in a bad way. Their op-ness doesn't detract away from the kind of story thats's being told.

The focus isn't on how can they accomplish their goals, but rather how they go about it and why. The how and why are very entertaining because of the great personalities held by the main cast.

And while there isn't much in the way of physical obstacles, all the character play a game of politics and follow certain rules affect their actions.

Finally the story does a good job of use everything mentioned above to create emotional tension and pay off, despite the reader generaly knowing most of the outcome. This is only possible because the characters and writing make the specifics interesting enough on their own.

Also the jokes and humor are pretty solid.
