Oh man, I don't know how to put it. I wanted to like it so much, but I can't quite stick with with.

The start was great. A frequently used but strong premise, compelling characters, a decent introduction to the magic of the world. But, slowly everything becomes more and more underwhelming.

MC is a science grad. I'd figure he'd create some interesting spells, view existing spells from different views. I won't say it isn't totally there, but it's more on the fly. He gets in a pickle and the improvised (lamely imo) to get out it. He doesn't do any of applying scientific principles, doesn't conduct in-depth research besides being initiated into different magic. He wanders around seeking 'mysteries'. No kidding, just teach a kid the magic language, with no skills and throw him into the world. That seems to be the gist of how wizards conduct. If so, I'm not surprised how few there are given they must've already gone 6 foot under.

I'm barely scratching the surface with my rants. The MC is a pushover (kinda). You won't see it be totally blatant, but he is unquestionably being led around the nose by others. He had a single destination in mind when he starts his journey and he's basically doing side quests all around. Normally I wouldn't dislike that given how adventuring is supposed to be the main focus of such stories. But, given how the MC conducts himself, it is somewhat pathetic.

I don't wanna spoil anything which is why I'm skirting around the edges here, but to be more forthright, so far two main female characters were introduced so far. A noble girl and a female swordswoman. And, both are so annoying in their own ways. And, the MC totally panders to them.

Not gonna go more into it. But, the strong start of the story felt like it deceived me given how disappointed I feel right now.

So, yeah. Try it, maybe you'll like it. But, I can't stand such insufferable characters, a somewhat spineless MC, very barebones delving into the magic of the world, lack of direction of story, abrupt introduction of strong bonds with random characters that weren't there before and so on.
